Parallel cultivation of practice and understanding,
and an equal balance of teaching and contemplation,
are the philosophies of the Tiantai School.
Put dhyana into everyday practice,
thereby excising delusion and seeing the true nature of one's mind.
止 伏結之初門 禪定之勝因
觀 斷惑之正要 智慧之由藉
the initial gateway to the suppression of one's bonds, and the supreme cause for meditative concentration; contemplation－
the pivotal method to the elimination of one's delusions, and the foundation of wisdom.
◎ About Venerable Yong Ben
Venerable Yong Ben (Dharma name: Xin Fu)was born in Yunlin County, Taiwan. She was tonsured by Venerable Master Hsing Yun in 1983. She graduated from the Chinese Buddhism Research Institute in 1991. Her Specialty is the Tiantai teachings. She has published a dozen or more theses like 'The Tiantai Dharma Gate of Contemplating the Mind,' 'An Analysis of the Term "Fa-shi" in the Lotus Sutra,' 'A study of the Exegeses of the Chinese Translation of the Lotus Sutra,' and so forth, and annotated Chinese translations such as "The For Teaching Methods of the Tiantai School."
She currently serves as the Chief Executive of Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Electronic Texts, and the Dean of Women's Buddhist College, FGS Tsung Lin University.
